First post / last post

I have been quite happy with using Livejournal for my blogging so far, but have now decided to give WordPress a try. I have been working with it some time ago, but got away from it again.

Now I have WordPress running at my new web provider and after a lot (to many?) point’n’clicks I got all my old blog entrys transfered. So the new adress for my blog will now be http://compadre.dk/blog/, and this is the last blog entry on my old blog – but the first (real) one at the new one…
I hope WordPress lives up to all the good things I have heard about it.

Nerd mode – enabled

Amazing Grace

Yesterday was fourth of July, the American Independence Day. Not really a holiday I have ever celebrated in the past, but yesterday I attended two (different) celebrations of the day.

The first was a political manifestation. I joined over 300 others outside the Ministry of Defence, located at Holmens Kanal. There we put on orange jumpsuits, black hoods and chains around feet and hands. Then we went in one long line – three by three – to the American Embassy in complete silence (except for the rattling of the chains). Upon arrival we song the Amazing Grace, and then went our separate ways. Even though there were a whole bunch of reporters with cameras, I have only been able to find very shallow covering of the event – if I do manage to find more pictures or general news items about it, I will link it here later. For now, take a quick look here for a single picture.

So, with the political manifestation of the day taken care of I moved on to Amager for a more traditional celebration. We were just about 14 people, grilling (or do you call it barbecuing in the states?), drinking beer and having a good time.

I got home late’ish, slept until noon and now I should be just about ready to start my day… (being on holidays sure is sweet!)

It’s freaking yellow!

War! AIDS-epidemic! Government corruption!
These and other topics are of course important, but they seem to fade in comparison to what I am about to show you!

You, my dear educated sophisticated widely travelled reader might not think twice about the following, but for me it was a world shaking event… I’m of course talking about the first time I saw a yellow water melon.

In my world up until quite recently watermelons are red. (Unless they have gone bad of course.) But this one is yellow. It tasted all right, but it just seemed so strange.

Judge for your self

Anyway, yesterday I went with Thomas to Tivoli to watch and hear Beth Hart play Fredagsrock. I didn’t even know who she was (during the concert only one number seemed familiar), but the concert was great! I was really happy that we went. For obvious reasons I have never actually been to a concert in the seventies, but I think she hit that ‘vibe’ quite well.
Long story short, I liked what I heard!

Thomas and I later went for a few beers at a few pubs/kroer/bars, met up with some friends of Thomas and got more beers. So now I’m sitting here a bit hungover and trying to figure out what to do with my Saturday

Sunday…

Today was Sunday. I got up around… late. Found something to eat, got dressed, had a bath (maybe not that way around) packed my algebra books and headed for the park where Esben was already sitting reading seriously. The weather today was really great. Not a cloud at the sky, and nice and warm. I looked over my algebra problems for the last hand in, and quickly realised that I was in no way able to solve any of them. Dosed off on the grass, half awake, half asleep. Woke up again some time later, took another look at the books. Convinced my self that I could do one of the problems, but didn’t get anything down on paper, so I will properly have to do the whole argument again some time later. Dosed off on the grass in the sun again until around 3 pm.
Got home, played a bit of computer games, until Rasmus showed up. Esben, Rasmus and I then went running. I gave up half way, but the important thing is that I have started running – and it won’t be the last time!
After some diner consisting of salmon bagels Esben and I did some WoW playing and some TV watching.
All in all a great Sunday with no work and all play. Just as Sundays are supposed to be!

Getting a passing grade, or passing a grade?

For reasons that are unclear to me my java course has ended yesterday. I did all the hand-ins, so I can now consider that course passed. One step closer to holidays!
I still need to do one more hand-in for my algebra course, but with the results from the other previous hand-ins I should be fairly sure of passing that course to. The question that poses it self is of course if I can pass with a grade better than just passed. I hope so!

So it would seem that my studying will end around the 20. of June, which is more than a week earlier that I had initially thought. Nice.

So, besides the last algebra hand-in I should really start looking into what courses to follow in the fall semester. I’m fairly sure I will follow a algebra course, but besides that I have a lot of doubts. But I should be able to figure it out today… hopefully.
