Stand-up comedy på Kulkaféen

I have been going through a lot of my old stuff while doing some cleaning and sorting lately, and came across an old X-COM: Terror from the Deep CD. After installing DOSBox
and setting the cycles setting a bit higher that the default, the game performs just like I remember, with full sound support and all.

During the weekend I was at Ølbaren with some friends (and some people from their work). A really nice place – especially, besides all the beers of course, I did enjoy the no-smoking policy.

New Years in Sweden

I celebrated new years in Malmö, Sweden this year. Joe (and his brother and girlfriend) had invited some family and friends (I fit into the last category) to eat, drink, dance and all the other new years stuff.
Although most members of the party were danish some of the subtle differences between how Swedes and Danes celebrate new years became very obvious. While we were inside watching Dinner for One just before 12 o clock, the Swedes were outside shooting fireworks. After watching the televised strikes of the town hall clock of Copenhagen we went outside, only to realize that the fireworks display was almost over by then.

I had forgotten about this parody called 80-års fødselsdagen (in danish) and I didn’t get to watch it this year, but today I (re)found it. Thought I would share (and get some video onto this blog). You might like it or not…

Happy new year!

Ahhh. It’s 1.40 pm (ish) and I’m having Coca-Cola and chips for break feast. Nothing better after a night out on the town with friends.
There were five of us out talking, drinking, dancing and just having a good time.

Oh, and since I last blogged (what a strange word, come to think of it…) I got through Christmas with the family, some social activities etc. and did way to little school work. Same old…

See you all in 2007…

So, that’s what censorship looks like…

Danish ISP Tele2 has been forced to censor Russian based website allofmp3.com. I haven’t used allofmp3.com’s service, and don’t plan to in the future, but that doesn’t mean that this isn’t interesting and disturbing to me. If IFPI can get the courts to turn off allofmp3.com today, who will get what website turned off tomorrow? Your guess is as good as mine.

Here is a screen shot of what my browser returns when I try to visit http://www.allofmp3.com/:

However, the censorship is not impossible to get around, if you have a little technical skill…

If you were to add the following few lines to your hosts file you should be well on your way to getting around the blocking (for now).

87.242.93.250 allofmp3.com
87.242.93.250 www.allofmp3.com
87.242.93.250 music.allofmp3.com

In a completely unrelated topic, I finished my algebra exam today. It didn’t go as well as I had hoped, but I should be sure of passing (and isn’t that the important part?). It was a written exam, so my final grade is not known yet. Time will tell.

Now I’m (almost) off to get some Julebryg of some sort, and then I have a packed (but interesting) weekend ahead of me. Take care out there (who ever might be listening out there…).

Sunday with hangover…

I had a nasty hangover this morning. Got a few beers to many last night.

Thursday I went with Rasmus to see Dronningen af Malmø. It started out a bit to slow for my liking, but picked up pace as the story started evolving. All in all a good night. When I came home, my laptop had finally fetched all the packages needed for upgrading from Ubuntu Dapper to Edgy Eft and had started the actual update. The update took a long time, but went rather smooth. I still have a few things I need to change but all in all I’m happy with the new Ubuntu. The F-Spot photo manager is one of the new things I really like, and think I will use quite a lot. Also, the Amarok player seems to be a bit more willing to play music without to much lag (generally a good thing for a music player), than it was before I updated.
The new fast and improved start up system doesn’t really impress me much yet, but maybe that’s because I don’t really know what to look for.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY!

I JUST FOUND OUT A FEW MINUTES AGO THAT TODAY IS INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY, AND WHY NOT JOIN IN THE CELEBRATION?

MY WEEKEND WAS FUN, BUT SO FAR NOT VERY PRODUCTIVE. FRIDAY OLK (OVERLÆGERNES KLUB) THREW A PARTY AT PANUM, AND I SHOWED UP, DID A LOT OF DRINKING, A LITTLE BIT OF TALKING AND NO DANCING AT ALL.
MOST OF MY SATURDAY WAS SPEND WITH A HEAD ACE, BUT IN THE EVENING ESBEN AND RASMUS DID MANAGE TO DRAG ME ALONG FOR ONE BEER AT VERSTERBROS BRYGHUS.

TODAY I HAVE UNFORTUNATELY NOT YET STARTED STUDYING, BUT I DID SOMETHING ALMOST AS IMPORTANT – I HAVE BEEN REARRANGING CLOTHS IN MY CLOSET, TO MAKE A BIT OF SPACE. NOT EXTREMELY EXCITING, BUT QUITE PRACTICAL…

Whiskey!

Yesterday evening I went to Malmö, met up with Joe and went to Slagthuset to taste some whiskey at the Smak af Whisky.

I must admit my knowledge of whiskey is limited, and I usually mix it with cheap cola (I know some people might be sitting in front of their monitors, or what ever they use to experience this blog, going “Heresy! Burn Him!”, but I must admit I do). But I got through without revealing my complete lack of knowledge of the subject.

Some of the whiskeys were good (I’m sure they all were, but good to me), and others were a bit to much. Especially a smoked one had a very nice scent, but tasted to much of… well, smoke.

At the end of the evening we went for a local sausage with mashed potatoes, my first ever. It was far from as bad as I expected (but of course not as good as the whiskeys).

No particular place to go…

This weekend was an event full one here in Copenhagen. Sunday afternoon a “reclaim the streets” party/demonstration in support of Ungdomshuset (Wikipedia link) ended in 263 arrests, and the media has been full of pictures of flying paving stones and dumpsters set on fire in the streets of Nørrebro.
The police of course claims that the demonstraters could have continued if they had played by the rules. The demonstraters on the other hand claim that the confrontation started by the police driving(!) their vans into the crowd.
At the end of the day, out of the 263 arrests only five people remained in custody.
My guess is that the police was just looking to pick a fight… The day before, Saturday, there was another big peace full demonstration, which I took part in, for Ungdomshuset with about 3,000 demonstrators and it was made clear again and again that all the happenings for Ungdomshuset this weekend (there was also a concert with some rather big names Friday) were to be peace full. The phrase “we choose when and where to fight” came up a couple of times and it was made clear that no one were looking for trouble this weekend…
Besides that, I personally had a great weekend, with some partying and moderate drinking Friday and Saturday night, and a relaxed bike ride with David Sunday afternoon out to Langelinie and up the coast with no particular place to go. We actually just managed to see the big police lineup at Droning Louises Bro before we left the city center.

Hidden political messages in Aqua lyrics?

Last Sunday (the Sunday that resulted in quite a hangover for me Saturday) Rasmus and I, while under heavy influence of alcohol, started analyzing old Aqua lyrics.

Mostly one would associate Aqua and their lyrics with shallow bubblegum pop, but in the middle of the My Oh My tune, you hear René Dif‘s vocal singing:

Gotta steal from the rich when they don’t know I’m comin’
Gotta give to the poor, no time for lovin’

If that is not old fashioned socialist propaganda, I don’t know what is… Who would have thought that about Aqua – not me, that’s for sure…
